Die, die, die!

That's what I had to say after Microsoft had abandoned its Yahoo! takeover efforts this past weekend. And I meant this towards Microsoft.

Now, I am not a Microsoft hater or anything of this sort, but I just don't think this deal would have been good for Yahoo! and the rest of the Internet. It might have been good for the Redmond, WA, company, but that's hardly any decent consolation for the rest of us, particularly for those who have been using Yahoo! ever since it became such a major Internet destination. My browser's homepage is set for yahoo.com and it has been for many years. I do want to keep it this way, so I am so glad that that Ballmer guy did not get what he wanted.

Good!

Yahoo! has very bright future, in my opinion. The Internet is still a relatively new thing and Yahoo! is positioned tremendously well to take advantage of it. Selling Yahoo! now would have been a dumb idea. Perhaps in 10-20 years, but definitely not now.

To be quite honest, I did not believe this deal would go through as Yahoo! was the one to lose in the long run and I am glad that the Yahoo! management did not sell out.

I just wish I shortened some Yahoo! stock on Friday to follow my gut feeling about the fate of the takeover talks. I really wish I did that, but I practically don't trade stocks these days, so I was slow to make this decision. Too bad. The Yahoo! stock is bound to tank on Monday and those traders who were betting against this deal will have a field day. However, in the long run, Yahoo! investors should do well. I don't think Yahoo! really needs Microsoft to help it out.
