HOME Eclectic	Holocaust hero passes away at 98 Irena Sendler who saved 2,500 Jews during World War II in the Nazi occupied Poland passed away at the age of 98. She was one of those people of whom we can safely say that they have advanced humanity by at least 100 years. I believe that her heroism has not been in vain. I believe that Europe has finally learned from its past and no major war will ever be launched on its soil again. Hopefully, no war at all. You have probably heard about Schindler and his list. You may not have heard about Irena Sendler though, as she never craved fame and remained out of spotlight most of her life. Just as true heroes do. I learned about her only a year or so ago after she had become worldwide known due to a play written about her life by some Kansas students. Years back in Poland in 70's and 80's her name was not mentioned often if at all or else I would have noticed it. And her passing has not been registered by many either. Take a look at this picture.
