Texas Hold'em Books

This section lists books for those just starting at Hold'em as well as for those who would like to take their game to the next level. Each of the books listed here can be purchased on Amazon.com and for your convenience I also provided the links to them.

If you are a beginner, you will certainly benefit from the following titles.

Crash Course In Winning Hold'em
This is a great introduction to the game suitable for complete beginners, pretty comprehensive (it addresses many things other books usually gloss over), although it is not very deep. It is just fine for the very first book to read on Texas Hold'em, but to learn how to play the game you need more.

Beginners Guide to Limit Hold'em
This is a very good book that assumes no prior knowledge of Texas Hold'em and starting from the very basics it gives you an excellent  and thorough introduction to the elements of the game and its strategy. Highly recommended as the first book on the Texas Hold'em strategy for those totally new to the game.

Illustrated Guide To Texas Hold'em: Making Winners Out Of Beginners and Advanced Players
This is could be your smoothest basic introduction to how to play low limit Hold'em which at the same time is good enough to be of some use even to more advanced players.

If you think that you need to improve your game even more (and who really doesn't?), then I suggest that you check out the following positions.

Winning Low-Limit Hold'em
A classic masterpiece for small stakes limit games of Hold'em.

Internet Texas Hold'em: Winning Strategies from an Internet Pro
The best introduction to Texas Hold'em online for more experienced players.

Small Stakes Hold 'em: Winning Big With Expert Play
Perfect for intermediate to advanced players of low limit Hold'em.

Reading books is only one way to improve your game and the more of them you read the better, at least when you are starting. However, it's important to realize that you will not find everything in the books. There are things that the best players will never put in print if they believe that it would make them less competitive. Here is what David Sklansky, the foremost gambling authority, says in one of his books: "You may have noticed I included nothing about Lowball Draw. This is because at this writing, it is the main game at which I make my living. Which leads me to one last comment: Pros don't go around teaching others really important things for nothing just to show how smart they are."

(It is exactly for the same reason that I am not offering my discretionary trading strategies for sell on this site; simply because they are the main source of my income as I explain here.)

That's why to become an even better player, you will need to get used to doing your own research by studying best possible hand strategies in the context of your table position, the pot odds, and the action at the table. You will also need to work on your own synthesis of the game by combining your original observations with those found in the literature. That's how you become a champion.
