Meet HOBO

Texas Hold'em

Poker bots are coming?

The whole thing is a sham. Sorry...

Well, let me now tell you why I played this little practical joke on you. For three reasons:

1. this is a poker section, so I thought a little lesson of bluffing would demonstrate how lovely poker could be; and if you are pissed off because of that, you probably should not play it!

2. my site is not only commercial, but also educational and I state it clearly on the very welcome page, so please take this as a test for critical thinking and if you did not pass it with flying colors you may want to check out the Resources section for some remedial literature on critical thinking; for instance, the book How We Know What Isn't So would be highly recommended in this case.

3. I wanted to demonstrate to you that most stuff marketed on the Internet is of the sham variety as I mentioned in Meet HOBO; here is why: this ebook is right now (late August 2006) the most popular affiliate product on ClickBank among poker related items, so if the majority of marketers are interested in selling you sham, it's only natural to expect that most of the stuff sold on the Internet is sham! By the way, entry data/typing jobs are the hottest affiliate ClickBank items right now in the Money and Employment category and most of them are scams!

How do I know that this is a sham? Well, the most salient tell, to use the poker terminology, is the fact that this Bobby thing sells for measly 50 bucks yet it can deliver $56 an hour on average! Why would you even consider selling something that makes you this kind of money while you don't even have to lift a finger?  Another thing that caught my attention is a long-winded heroic story about how two geeks came to conquer the poker world with their powerful robot. I was almost reduced to tears by this story and if a story moves you to tears you better make sure that it is a story about a tears-inducing product or else it is a total baloney! Where is any evidence that this thing really makes any money at all? It's totally missing. Instead of some hard core evidence that is called for here, they supplied you with a silly story. I don't know about you, but I find these kind of stories an insult to my intelligence. And I know what sort of people work on profitable poker bots: these are not your typical geeks, but math and poker experts.

You want to know how this sham works? It's a novelty that tries to capitalize on the latest Texas Hold'em craze and novelties sell. Many people will buy it and will get hooked on it whether it makes them money or not. Some will buy it and forget it about. Some will request money back, but many will not. If you sell enough of it, you will make money. The key is to sell as much as possible, so it is absolutely not true that they want to limit it to 500 copies! Trust me, this is still going to be around about the Christmas time!

Since poker bots are a relatively new phenomenon, there are practically no books out there that would address the issue they pose. The only one I have found is the latest updated edition of the classic by Lee Jones. The author's opinion on bots pretty much coincides with mine expressed on this site.

Perhaps you are thinking that this still could be a great toy or a training tool. Yes, it could be, but is the price of nearly $50 right? Well, check out the poker software section and you will see that I could get you a robot like that for less than 5 bucks. And another one as a free bonus!

So here is your booby trap once more:

Bobby - your personal poker robot!
(Wondering why this link is dead? Read on...)

Check it out again and see if I am really so off the target. Then come back and take a look at this:

This is an excellent fast track to solid profits in Texas Hold'em. Highly  recommended! MORE

I believe that you will understand what difference I am talking about here. The difference between making money, even if a little, and most likely losing it.

The choice, as always, is yours.

I guess you are still wondering why the link to the Bobby wonder is dead. Well, it turned out that the geniuses selling this crap simply stole it! That's why ClickBank terminated their distribution. The robot in question was created by someone else who made it available to everybody totally free! Yes, this is not just sham or even scam, this is pure scum! So next time you think that I am some cynical guy, you may want to think twice and perhaps even re-read my little guide to spotting things like that. While it was originally meant to target the trading vendor industry, it can well be applied outside it too, at least in spirit, but in many a case in letter as well. Incidentally, the scum artists are still around and doing probably as great as ever. They now charge nothing for their technological wonder and claim that they will match any sum you deposit to your online casino account to play with Bobby. Well, good luck getting matched! No, I won't tell you where their site is located, but it has not moved at all! (2/10/07)
