Texas Hold'em Get your own poker robot and make tens of dollars an hour! Playing Texas Hold'em online can be a profitable occupation provided you have mastered the game first. This can take several weeks to months depending on your dedication and the time you put into practicing the game. Obviously, rarely ever will you become a champion after only a few months as it takes years for this, but to become a winning player a few good months is enough. Since Hold'em is a fast-paced game, once mastered, it can generate a pretty steady daily or weekly income. It is also the most popular variant of poker dwarfing others (Omaha, Stud) by a factor of 10 or so if measured by the number of tables played in Internet cardrooms. For this reason, there is always a good table to join even if you are a total beginner and just want to sharpen your skills. My interest in poker started a few years ago when I was working for a gaming company in Beverly Hills and one of my first tasks was to develop the optimal mathematical strategy for draw poker. Being a daytrader, I also find poker very appealing in that it is a game of speculation that relies on strategies that are probabilistic in nature, therefore it is not unlike the game of trading eminis. Another similarity to trading resides in psychology whose basic elements (self-discipline, controlling emotions, etc.) are very important in both fields. Finally, and probably most importantly, to succeed at poker one has to be highly selective, something that I really cannot stress enough on this site when it comes to trading. A good poker player folds much more of his hands than a poor poker player. I am sure that as a trader you will be able to appreciate poker more than most people. I also believe that studying and playing this game will make you a more sophisticated trader. It will teach you to think in terms of choosing your battles (trades) more wisely, it will help you to become a selective trader that you should aspire to be. Even if you never decide to play poker for a living, you will still benefit tremendously from it as a trader. What follows is a list of tools (books and software) that will help you to jumpstart your career in Hold'em. They mostly address small stakes limit games ($4-$8 or even lower) and as a beginner that's what you should focus on. There are many books on limit Texas Hold'em, and I could list them all here, but this would be rather counterproductive. To succeed in anything requires a great deal of focus, and so it is advisable to limit one's attention to a few sources of information first and as your mastery of the game progresses you can read more. The sources that follow are one of the best I have found and I recommend them highly.
Texas Hold'em Secrets - Exposed! This is surprisingly good stuff, comes from a successful player, and it should greatly shorten your learning curve. Based on it, you should also be able to create your own system if you decide not to use the ones in the book. However, to begin with and to start making money fast, it is wise to stick to the systems in the book. And since this is an ebook, it is only a few mouse clicks away. You can order it right now and start learning how to become a champion poker player in just a few minutes.
This is indisputably one great piece of training software! You can play against programmed robots and humans (how quaint...), too. There is no substitute for practice and experience, so this software is a must. To read my personal story about it, please see this article in another section of the site. These two should put you on a fast and solid track to success in Texas Hold'em. For more books on Texas Hold'em see here. For more poker software click here. This section is likely to expand so please check it often.
