HOME Eclectic	Steve Wozniak - the prankster If there are two names in the home computing industry that stand out, it's Bill Gates and Steve Wozniak. (Steve Jobs, while a great and influential guy in his own right, has been more of a marketing and business genius than a technical one and so I don't think he can be put in the same league as the other two.) Wozniak is well known as a big prankster and practical joker.  He once started a Dial-A-Joke line. Being a Polish-American, he reasoned that no one would object to him telling Polish jokes, but complaints from the Polish American Congress convinced him to switch to Italian jokes for a while. He switched back only after the Polish American Congress had sued a comedian over telling Polish jokes and had lost the case. Twelve years later, as Wozniak notes in his book, iWoz: From Computer Geek to Cult Icon: How I Invented the Personal Computer, Co-Founded Apple, and Had Fun Doing It, the same Polish American Congress gave him its Heritage Award, its highest award for achievements by an American of Polish descent. This story is recalled by Woz in his book, but can also be found on the web. Well, I like how he unleashed kids to made obscene calls to the lawyers that wanted to take down his joke line. Okay, okay, maybe he did not mean this to end up like that (and I doubt he really did), but, frankly, I think it was a great step towards implementing another joke, that about 10 thousands lawyers.  The joke is this:  "What do you call 10,000 lawyers at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean?"  "Good start."
